Eagles live in the trees, at least 75 feet above the ground. They like the security of having their nests up very high. This location also allows them to have a great spot for identifying possible prey on the ground or in the water around them. Some of these nests are very large, and they can weigh up to 200 pounds. As a result, they have to be built in very secure locations.
The Eagle tends to look for the tallest of all trees to build its nest in. In areas that have extremely tall trees, they will be the ones nesting at the very top. They are able to create their own environment there where very few other living creatures will bother them.
Eagles will mate for life, and once they do the pair will find their own niche in the habitat. They will tend to the same nest over and over again. They live in a variety of locations around the world. The Bald Eagle has more than half of its population in Alaska. Other locations around the USA and Canada are home to it.
The majority of species of Eagles live in Africa and Eurasia. Others live in Australia, Central America, and South America. The Eagle will live where it can find its basic needs. They need to have trees for their nests, but they can also use cliffs or other elements that are high off the ground if there aren’t enough trees.
They also need to live in a habitat that offers them enough food for them to survive. If their food supply is running low, then they may have no choice but to relocate. You will find that the Eagle is very territorial and that they take up a great amount of space to call their own. You won’t find large numbers of them nesting close to each other in any habitat.
When there is overcrowding due to the loss of habitat, it can be very stressful for the Eagles. They will be fighting among themselves for location and for the sources of food available. The stress can also result in them not mating. This is a natural process so that the population doesn’t get out of control when basic needs aren’t being met by the current population.
Due to their food source, many Eagles live very close to the water. There are species that have 90% of their diet in fish. There are also those species that live in the open country where it is very hot. They are able to find rodents, reptiles, and other sources of food in such areas.
The loss of habitat has been one of the main cases for many species of Eagles to drop in numbers. Even with protective laws in place now, a vast amount of where they once lived has been destroyed. Some of it was due to fires but the majority of it was cut down by humans so that the land could be used for their own benefit.
